ESRB - Entertainment Software Rating Board
The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) is a self-regulatory body for the interactive entertainment software industry established in 1994 by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), formerly the Interactive Digital Software Association (IDSA). ESRB independently applies and enforces ratings, advertising guidelines, and online privacy principles adopted by the computer and video game industry. ESRB assigns over 1,000 ratings per year. More than 550 publishers have submitted products to the ESRB for ratings since 1994. 83% of the time parents agree with the ratings assigned by the ESRB (According to a study conducted by Peter D. Hart Research Associates commissioned by the ESRB November 2004) Each year, visitors to ESRB's website complete more than 2 million searches for ratings information by title, rating, content descriptor and/or platform. ESRB Privacy Online was the first privacy seal certification program to be sanctioned by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission as a "Safe Harbor" under the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, a designation that shields our members from potential sanctions and fines.
