USERPLANE PRESIDENT NAMED TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF IDEA OASIS

USERPLANE PRESIDENT MICHAEL JONES NAMED TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF NEW INTERNET DATING/ONLINE SOCIAL NETWORKING INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION
Inaugural Meeting of IDEA OASIS Scheduled for July 15 in Nice, France

LOS ANGELES (March 22, 2004) – Userplane (www.userplane.com), a pioneer in applying Flash-based instant messaging to support live communications for Web-based communities, today announced that its president, Michael Jones, has joined the Board of Directors of IDEA OASIS, a new not-for-profit association for the online dating and social networking industries. Jones is also one of the founding members of the group.

The association will have its inaugural meeting on July 15, 2004 at the Internet Dating Conference in Nice, France. The founding board of IDEA OASIS -- the Internet Dating Executive Alliance/Online Association for Social Industry Standards – includes executives from both the online dating and social networking sectors.

The mission of the organization is to set ethical standards for member social networking sites, including protection of account privacy and verification of membership, among others. The association will provide value to its membership by facilitating information exchange among members, giving members access to its extensive information repository, helping members understand emerging technologies and their impact on the industry, and creating relationships for members with various third-party vendors, which will include services and products at discounted prices.

The association will ensure that its members have representation with lawmakers, and will promote ethical social networking and online dating management for members and to the general community at large.

“This is a great opportunity for us to work collaboratively for the good of the dating and online social networking industries,” said Jones. “Creating industry-wide ethical standards – and making a public declaration that each of our individual companies will live up to them – benefits everyone. It is an important step in maintaining the high level of integrity throughout our industries, and in setting apart those companies that have agreed to hold themselves to a higher standard of service and privacy. Through my role as a founding board member, and Userplane’s involvement as a member organization, we’re making a statement to our customers and partners that we’re committed to helping create the most favorable business climate possible – an especially important goal given the rapid growth of the online dating and social networking sectors.”

Userplane is the leading provider of video and audio instant messaging capabilities to the online dating community, with the Userplane Instant Communicator deployed at more than 50 dating sites. Social networking sites consist of webs of relationships that expand through conversations among people who share personal information and common interests, but who tend to be geographically distant.

Member sites will be given a unique and numbered IDEA OASIS logo to place on their Web sites to show their clients that participating companies are in full support of the standards and ethics that IDEA OASIS promotes. These standards will increase the level of trust that members of the public will have in member sites.

The need for an industry association emerged as a topic at the first Internet Dating Conference, held in Miami in January. In addition to Jones, other acting members of the IDEA OASIS Board of Directors include:

  • Andrew Conru, CEO, FriendFinder, Inc.
  • Robert Fisher, Principal, Great Expectations
  • Eric Straus, President, Cupid.com, Inc.
  • Brad Hogg, CEO, Vintacom Media Group, Inc.
  • Jeff Titterton, Senior Vice President, Planet Out Partners
  • Morton Wagner, Founder and Director of Marketing, Dating.dk
  • Marc Lesnick, President, Ticonderoga Ventures, Inc. (Acting Chairman)

An advisory board will be established at the Nice 2004 event, to advise the Board of Directors on trends in technology, demographic and social trends, and industry impacts. USERPLANE TAKES TOP HONORS AT FLASH™ FILM FESTIVAL VIDEO AWARDS

USERPLANE SITE FOR RE:EVOLUTION OF SPORTS STREAMING TV BROADCAST TAKES TOP HONORS AT FLASH™ FILM FESTIVAL VIDEO AWARDS

LOS ANGELES (March 5, 2004) -- Userplane (www.userplane.com), a pioneer in developing innovative web applications, today announced that its site for Red Bull’s Re:Evolution of Sports -- an extreme sports TV show airing on Fox Sports Net – has won top honors at this year’s Flash™ Film Festival in San Francisco.

FlashForward 2004 and the Flash Film Festival, now in its 11th year, is the world’s largest gathering of Flash users. Thursday evening’s gala awards ceremony honored the most groundbreaking Flash applications on the web. Re:Evolution of Sports, one of the first television shows broadcast online, was one of four finalists in the competition’s Video category.

Using Macromedia Flash Communication Server, Userplane developed a streaming video library of television episodes for the program, a show that focuses on the unique lifestyle of extreme athletes and the sports they represent. Fully streamed episodes can be viewed on the Re:Evolution of Sports web site at www.reevolution.tv.

“This is a tremendous honor for everyone involved in what truly is a groundbreaking project,” said Michael Jones, president, Userplane. “Re:Evolution of Sports has brought together the collective creativity and resources of Red Bull, Fox Sports Net, Macromedia and our own team. Together, we’ve been able to showcase a new way of fusing the Internet and broadcast television and, perhaps, demonstrate where this new medium is headed.”

This year's FlashForward festival featured 16 categories overall, with 15 winners selected after two rounds of evaluation by expert judges. Userplane’s Re:Evolution also competed in the 16th category, the "People's Choice," where one favorite from the full list of 60 finalists was determined by the public. Earlier this year, Userplane received Macromedia “Site of the Day” recognition for the Re:Evolution of Sports site (www.macromedia.com/cfusion/showcase/index.cfm?event=sotdarchive&loc=en_us).

No Bad Dates! (By Devlyn Steele)

    “Successful Dating”

Do a Google search for “dates from hell”, and you just might crash their servers. There are tons of websites devoted to subject. One described a guy who talked about his ex-girlfriend all night, then drove by his ex’s house a few times because he was “concerned for her welfare”. Another told the story of a girl who made another date for later that evening, over her cell phone, during dinner. I’m sure you have a few war stories of your own. You know what I think?

    There are no bad dates.

“No bad dates??” you’d tell me. “You’ve obviously never spent an evening with Mr/Ms. X who thought the silverware was speaking to them…in Klingon”. Maybe not, but so long as you were not in any danger or got hurt in any way, it wasn’t that bad. It probably only lasted a few hours, and you must have found some humor in that person across the table, waiting for the mothership. Cross Captain Kirk off of your list and chalk it up to a learning experience.

The important thing is to not get discouraged and give up on dating completely. Stick with it, and keep looking to make that connection. Here are three quick tips:

    Release yourself from expectation.
Never “expect” your date to be “the one”, no matter how cute or nice they are initially. You set the date up to be a disaster by your unrealistic expectations. It creates undue pressure and leads you on a scavenger hunt for faults in the other person. Relax, enjoy the process, and don’t focus on an “end result” that you have invented for yourself.

It's all about attitude! Your mindset is what determines the quality of any experience. If you approach your date with a good attitude, there are no bad dates. Each experience is a step towards finding the person that is right for you.

Go out on as many dates as possible.
The way to that right person is through a lot of not-the-right persons. The more dates you have, the more opportunities you make for yourself. Mr. or Ms. Right will not come knocking on your door while you are watching TV. Date, date and then date some more, the process is the answer.

Meet many people that might be possible dates.
A positive dating attitude gives you endless opportunities to meet the right person.
Don’t rule out any method or avenue, and try them all: speed date, people at the gym, through friends, or online - even Aunt Millie’s set up. Do it all!

The Internet is fast becoming one of the best and most accepted ways to meet people. They call it online dating, but it should really be called online meeting, since you don’t actually date until you physically get together. It is, however, a melting pot of interesting people and opportunities. There are ways to meet people online safely and with great success! Go to The RealtionshipTools.com and get your free book, “Tools to Online Dating” and become a successful dater with no bad dates!
